Dalgarno Singers [Thornhill]

Last updated: 15/01/2024

Description

The Dalgarno Singers are a mixed, adult Choir, based in Thornhill, Dumfriesshire. The Choir was formed in 1974 and now has about 30 members. Our name comes from the old settlement, Dalgarnock, near where Thornhill now stands. We sing a mixture of traditional songs (folk tunes such as those of Burns), classical choral works (typically Haydn, Handel, Mozart, Rutter and Schubert), and show tunes (recently from West Side Story and Les Miserables). Each rehearsal is conducted by our Music Director Rory Robson-McLatchie and our Accompanist Hilary Craig.

All ages welcome, rehearsals Monday. evenings Sept - Dec then Jan - May.

A few of our members can sing the notes straight off the printed sheet, but while we value those with musical skills, the most important qualification is enthusiasm and a willingness to work on your music between rehearsals. There is no audition - if you can hear a sequence of 4 or 5 notes and then sing them back, you will almost certainly be able to enjoy developing your skill from there with the choir.
