The Society is a charity.  It seeks to provide a focus for interests in all antiquarian, archaeological, historical genealogical and natural history topics for the whole of  Dumfries & Galloway and to encourage local research and field activities.  The Society publishes its Transactions annually and offers grants for appropriate excavations or research.
