Historic Environment Viewer

Use our interactive map to view historic features in your area.

The map contains information from our Historic Environment Record as well as some data provided by Historic Environment Scotland. This includes archaeological sites, find spots, historic buildings and other features such as shipwrecks or designed landscapes.

This viewer isn't a planning tool and not all of the records shown are relevant to the planning process. You should contact us for advice on archaeological issues which might affect any development (even work that doesn't need planning permission).

Using the map

Drag and zoom to browse or use the search box to get straight to a specific address, postcode or grid reference. You'll need to zoom in to see individual features properly.

Click on a feature to see more information in a pop-up. This won't work for any locations supplied by Historic Environment Scotland (features starting with HS in the map legend).
