Alphabet Street - As Easy As A, B, C

Thursday, 17 March 2022 14:06

A new challenge is coming to Langholm this April through a partnership between Dumfries and Galloway Council Active Schools, Dumfries and Galloway Council Youth Work Service and Police Scotland.

Alphabet Street is a fun experience for the local community to come together and walk around their town. Each week a new challenge will be posted on the Facebook page: Alphabet Street East. The challenge will have a theme, participants will have to find the letters to create a word that relates to the challenge. All photos taken will then be sent to alphabetstreeteast@outlook.com to be put into a prize draw to win various prizes from local businesses.

Young people from Langholm Academy have been involved with creating the map, putting the letters up around the town, choosing the themes and asking businesses for donations for the prizes.

We hope people join in this April in a safe manor following COVID guidelines. Enjoy the sunshine and see what you could win!

Councillor Andy Ferguson, chair of Communities committee said:

“It is great to see partnership working well in Annandale and Eskdale and creating a community activity especially with Easter holidays for the first two weeks. I hope families can enjoy creating the words and getting to walk around Langholm enjoying the views.”

Councillor John Martin, vice chair of Communities committee said:

“This project has worked well over West of the region. It is great to see local businesses supporting the project with donating to the prizes and for young people to be so involved with the creation of the running of the project.”

Are you looking to complete a saltire award for volunteering, how would you like to be a young leader? This opportunity can also be volunteering in groups and supporting other young people. Please contact Carla Grant for further information.
