Appointment of New Deputy Lieutenant for Wigtownshire

Well-known caterer and community stalwart, Sally Hair, has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Wigtownshire.

Sally has been part of the community all her life having been born and brought up in Auchenmalg, near Glenluce.

For the past 40 years she has been running the successful family farm business in Ardwell with her husband, Lamont. This year, Drumbreddan Farm was awarded the coveted Scottish Beef Farmer of the Year title.

Sally is best known for her wonderful cooking and her indomitable ‘can do’ attitude. She set up her catering business in the early 1990s and now provides food for all types of events, including weddings, anniversaries, private dinners and large-scale music and community events. She has provided catering for many famous names including The Princess Royal when she visited Stranraer.

Sally has also been involved in various capacities with the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute for more than 20 years and is President of the very popular Stoneykirk branch.

Aileen Brewis, Lord-Lieutenant for Wigtownshire said: “I’m delighted to appoint Sally as a Deputy Lieutenant as she is very caring and capable person who knows the area and the community very well. She always goes out of her way to help others and has a very friendly and approachable manner. I am confident Sally will be a wonderful asset to the Lieutenancy and help represent His Majesty The King in Wigtownshire.”

Accepting the position, Sally added:“Itis an honour and a privilege to have been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant. The opportunity to assist and support the Lord Lieutenant in her role within the community is something I look forward to”.

Deputy Lieutenants (DLs)represent the Lord-Lieutenant, The King’s personal representative, when he or she is away or attending other events. DLs carry out a wide range of engagements including presenting 100th Birthday cards or Diamond Wedding cards from The King and attending Remembrance Day services. They help with the assessment of honours nominations and Voluntary Service awards, nominate people to attend Royal Garden Parties as well as being present at a many local official ceremonies and events. Sally’s appointment brings the number of Deputy Lieutenants in Wigtownshire to five, including the Vice Lord-Lieutenant The Earl of Stair.
